Manufacturing Team Prove their Operational Skills
Release dated: 2nd. November 2006
A team of employees at the progressive, Willenhall manufacturing company, J T B Pressings Limited, were presented today with confirmation that their manufacturing capabilities are world class. Each person was formally presented by their Managing Director, Ivan Evans, with their own Certificate to prove that their production skills are above the demanding industry standards.
The Company supplies the agricultural, automotive, electrical and lock industries with presswork, welding and assembly services. It has rapidly increased its range of services over the last two years. This has required the workforce to quickly develop its skills to meet the new demands from the Company's customers.
A team of 2 machine setters and six operators undertook to complete a nationally accredited City and Guilds course, Performing Manufacturing Operations in order to test their competency at all the work activities demanded of them. This is a national qualification, widely accepted internationally.
At the invitation of General Manager, Martin Hunt, the programme was run in the factory by leading Midlands workforce training provider, Pilot IMS Limited, working with Franchise Partner, Dudley College. The programme commenced in the summer, with all members of the team anxious of the work involved. Their anxiety slowly changed to confidence and enthusiasm under the guidance of Pilot's Trainer/Assessor, Raj Skandarajah, and the constant support of Managing Director, Ivan Evans, and of Martin Hunt.
The result is that all the participants have now proved their competence to work at or above the national standards, are showing greater confidence and a justifiable pride in their achievement. They have now also asked if they could continue with further courses, again with Pilot IMS Ltd. as the provider. Both Ivan and Martin are delighted with the success of their team in gaining what, for some, will be their first ever formal qualification. As a result of the Company's emphasis on training, it has recently been able to open up a new welding facility and just last week has also been rewarded with a new contract worth £1M per annum.
