Support for Operations Management

The range of services which we provide that have specific relevance for operational management includes:

  • CREATING INDIVIDUAL INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS to reflect specific product knowledge and best operational practice
  • Enhancing OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE by training staff to current organisational procedures and in relevant Lean Manufacturing techniques
  • Establishing ONGOING workforce CAPABILITIES through NVQ assessment programmes
  • Conducting H & S Audits
  • Improving technical performance
  • Meeting legal obligations in relation to health and safety, environmental impact, equal opportunities and staff selection, induction and training

Details of each of the above areas of operational support are given below.

CREATING INDIVIDUAL INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS
Does your organisation incorporate numerous sites or divisions performing similar work? Whatever the size, you can have your own standards of performance for your specific products and/or methods of working that can be applied globally.

Pilot will assist in articulating those standards for your organisation and in the formulation of staff development programmes to have these embedded throughout your establishments.

By basing this work on internationally recognised, standard courses, Pilot ensures that your own organisation's standards are established to the same high degree as widely used, nationally accredited qualifications.

ENHANCING OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
Our key activity of workforce development is designed to assist in enhancing operational performance by producing:

  • A benchmark of competence
  • Practical ideas for operational improvements
  • Reduced accident rates and staff turnover
  • Increased productivity, skill levels and attention to quality, improved workforce morale, communications and time-keeping.

In most cases, the development work takes place at the place of work and not at a remote, classroom location.

ESTABLISHING ONGOING CAPABILITIES OF THE WORKFORCE
By undertaking NVQ assessments across the workforce, their capability to work to operational procedures and nationally accepted standards is confirmed and reinvigorated. Under this programme, any shortfalls in performance or capability are highlighted and can be addressed. This provides the first step in developing the potential of each individual.

H & S AUDITS
Our qualified staff are available to undertake thorough audits of health and safety practice within the workplace. These can be arranged speedily to meet pressing operational requirements.

IMPROVING TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE
PILOT's experienced trainers have a wealth of practical knowledge which enable us to assist in the selection and application of relevant business improvement and lean manufacturing techniques (BIT) within an organisation. This ensures practical solutions and successful implementation of improvement measures.

"Best practice" systems and procedures and quality improvement measures are typical results from taking the comprehensive, stand-alone BIT qualification. The workshop sessions cover the effective implementation of relevant Lean Manufacturing techniques.

MEETING LEGAL OBLIGATIONS
With statutory requirements for manufacturers and employers increasing throughout the year, it is difficult for organisations to keep up with the legislative requirements without employing or retaining a full time expert. To overcome this on-cost, we have produced a range of short courses which address the individual legislative concerns.
