The introduction of new, nationally accredited courses

Throughout 2011, we are introducing revised, nationally accredited qualifications that have been recast to meet the requirements of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which came into effect nationally on 1st Jan. 2011.

The QCF is a system for recognising skills and qualifications. It does this by awarding credit for qualifications and "Units" - the term given for the smallest steps of learning within a qualification.

Each Unit has a credit value. This value specifies the number of Credits gained by any learner who completes that Unit.

The QCF enables learners to accumulate Credits such that they can gain enough for a full qualification, obtained at their own pace through a choice of subjects and Units which are the most suitable for both them and their employer.

The QCF-compliant courses will eventually replace all the existing nationally accredited qualifications that we offer.

The newly constructed courses are being introduced as they become available from their Awarding Body and have been accepted for support funding. We are including the new QCF details for each course within the course descriptions given in our "Accredited Courses" section, within their relevant subject group.
