    Health and Social Care - Level 2

    WHO IS THE COURSE FOR? Health and Social Care qualifications are designed for people who deliver Health and Social Care to clients, who work with individuals to support and assist them with their physical or emotional care, daily living needs or maintaining their independence.

    The level 2 qualification is aimed at home care assistants, community support assistants, healthcare assistants and residential or day service assistants.

    The award is about direct care, where the focus is hands-on care, (doing things for clients) enablement care, and development and maintenance of the clients independence (supporting and enabling clients to do things for themselves).

    It is ideal for participants who wish to have their current skills assessed and recognised against accredited national standards and to raise their individual level of competence at work to meet those standards.

    AIMS OF THE COURSES
    This qualification allows participants to prove and improve their competency in applying the skills required across the health and care sectors and to specialise in specific key areas of competence.

    COURSE CONTENT
    The courses consist of 4 essential and topics and an additional 2, to be selected from a range of 27 options. The essential topics relate to universal requirements, such as healthy, safe and effective working.

    There are 4 mandatory topics and 2 additional ones to be chosen from a selection of 27 options. There is also scope within the qualification for additional topics to be included from a choice of a further 14 options.

    The courses allow the qualification to be matched to each participant's job function and give the context in which performance is to be assessed.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
    There are no formal entry qualifications. This is a work-oriented qualification, aimed at those who have current, real work experience, who are in a position to generate the required evidence of work activities.

    COURSE ASSESSMENT
    Assessment is continual, through gathering evidence of performance. Assessment in the workplace can be devised to fit company requirements.

    Participants are given appropriate credit for prior learning and/or experience to speed up their progress to an award.

    QUALIFICATION GAINED: City and Guilds Health and Social Care NVQ - Level 2
