    Core Skills are the fundamental skills that all learners are expected to be able to perform successfully before working towards any higher level qualification. The qualifications form a stepping stone to a Level 2 qualification for anyone who has not gained their own, relevant GCSE qualifications.

    The Courses are set to cover the basic Skills for Life" requirements at 5 levels of ability. The starting level for every learner is determined by means of a short, informal aptitude test.

    The qualifications we provide are suitable for any individual or company involved in any industry sector. Successful participants receive their own official Certificate.

    Courses are usually undertaken at the learner's place of work. If more appropriate, they can be taken at our training centre in central Birmingham.

    Course Descriptions

    Adult Literacy- All 5 levels

    AIMS OF THE COURSES
    These qualifications are available covering a range of stages in personal skills. They are suitable for learners who wish to develop their confidence and skills in using language in practical situations. They are designed to progress learners' reading, writing and personal communication capabilities in stages up to the national qualification framework level 2.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: There are no formal entry qualifications required. Learners can enter at the level appropriate to their skills.

    COURSE ASSESSMENT: At Entry Levels, all units are assessed in the training facility: by set tasks or by practical activities set in the facility. Assessment at Levels 1 and 2 is by externally set, multiple choice tests, either paper-based or by e-test via the internet.

    QUALIFICATIONS GAINED: City & Guilds Certificate in Adult Literacy at Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2.

    AWARDING BODIES: The City and Guilds of London Institute, OCR

    PROGRESSION: Achievement at each level enables the learner to progress to the next level and to other qualifications at the level achieved.
