    ITQ NVQ - Level 3

This Award will appeal to anybody who is an established user of IT and who wishes to develop their IT skills or have their present ability rewarded with an internationally recognised qualification. It has been developed by industry to meet the needs of people who are not IT specialists but who benefit at work from performing computer-based activities.

The flexible structure of the Award means that it can be adapted for almost any workplace or job, to the extent that participants can select exactly those applications which are most relevant within their workplace in order to achieve the qualification.

    AIMS OF THE COURSE
The aim of the course is to develop an individual's IT skills in key business applications that are relevant to them and to recognise that achievement with a formal qualification.

    COURSE CONTENT
The course covers the broad range of IT activities which any person working in IT may be expected to carry out. It comprises a mix of 18 separate topics, (termed "Units"), of which one, "Make selective use of IT", is an essential component of the course.

All the Units are available at Levels 1 to 3. Each has a value rating which is dependent on the particular topic and the Level. To achieve the qualification, additional topics must be taken such that their combined value reaches a required total of 180 at Level 3. Further selection criteria also apply.

The mandatory Unit has a value of 35 at Level 3.

    Optional Units
Additional topics are to be selected from the remaining choice of 17 IT applications. These range from basic functions, such as sending and receiving e-mails, to a variety of more specialist activities, such as using database, website and artwork and imaging software.

Units can be taken at any level of difficulty, with at least half of the optional values required to be gained at Level 3. This requires a minimum of at least four additional topics to be selected, with the total number dependent on the Levels chosen.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements. Candidates should ideally be involved in business activities where IT is or can be used to advantage.

    COURSE ASSESSMENT
This is essentially a work-based qualification. Competence is assessed against agreed National Standards. Evidence can be collected from naturally occurring IT activities that are undertaken for a specific and real purpose.
