| NOTICE: |
Through 2010 and 2011 all nationally accredited qualifications are being revised by their relevant Awarding Bodies to meet the requirements of the government’s newly introduced, national Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
In many cases the courses remain virtually unaltered but have added details of “Credit” values ascribed to the individual Units that are required to be completed to achieve the qualification.
Under the QCF, new qualification grades have been introduced: an Award, Certificate and Diploma, for which a specified minimum number of Credits will have to be achieved. These grades are expected to be available for each subject at each Level of difficulty. The grades available and the numbers of Credits required for each grade can however differ for each subject and Level.
The new information is being introduced onto our website following its availability from the relevant Awarding Bodies. The revised courses are identified by the acronym QCF at the end of their title. Please contact us for the very latest information.

- Provide effective learning and assessment by relating directly to the work procedures of your organisation

The flexible structure of the awards means that they can be adapted for almost any workplace or job, to the extent that participants can select exactly those applications which are most relevant within their workplace in order to achieve the qualification.
AIMS OF THE COURSES
The aim of the courses is to develop an individual's IT skills in key business applications that are relevant to them and to recognise that achievement with a formal qualification.
COURSE CONTENT:
The courses cover the broad range of IT activities which any person working at each level may be expected to carry out.
The courses comprise a mix of 18 separate topics, (termed "Units"), of which one, "Make selective use of IT", is mandatory at each Level. The Level chosen determines the Level at which the qualification will be gained. Guidance on the choice of Level will be provided by Pilot's staff.
Additional Units are to be selected from the 17 optional topics. These cover the range of common IT applications, from e-mailing, spreadsheets and word processing to sector specific or more specialist options, such as website software.
All 18 Units are available at Levels 1, 2 and 3. At every Level, each Unit has a value rating which is dependent on that particular topic and the Level. To achieve the full qualification, additional topics must be taken, such that their combined value reaches a required total amount. Further selection criteria also apply. At least a half of the additional values required must be gained at the Level of the qualification.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
There are no formal entry requirements. Candidates should ideally be involved in business activities where IT is or can be used to advantage.
COURSE ASSESSMENT
This is essentially a work-based qualification. Competence is assessed against agreed National Standards. Evidence can be collected from naturally occurring IT activities that are undertaken for a specific and real purpose. It is essentially a work-based qualification.
QUALIFICATION GAINED: City & Guilds ITQ NVQ Level 1, 2 or 3.
