  • NOTICE: Through 2010 and 2011 all nationally accredited qualifications are being revised by their relevant Awarding Bodies to meet the requirements of the government’s newly introduced, national Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

In many cases the courses remain virtually unaltered but have added details of “Credit” values ascribed to the individual Units that are required to be completed to achieve the qualification.

Under the QCF, new qualification grades have been introduced: an Award, Certificate and Diploma, for which a specified minimum number of Credits will have to be achieved. These grades are expected to be available for each subject at each Level of difficulty. The grades available and the numbers of Credits required for each grade can however differ for each subject and Level.

The new information is being introduced onto our website following its availability from the relevant Awarding Bodies. The revised courses are identified by the acronym QCF at the end of their title. Please contact us for the very latest information.

    TDLB - Assessor and Verifier awards: A1, A2 & V. Units (7317)

    WHO ARE THE COURSES FOR?
These qualifications are designed for those who are experienced in specific practical work processes and procedures, who wish to become formally qualified to assess or verify the assessment of others who are undertaking NVQ awards for the same practical activities.

Units A1 and A2 apply to people who will be required to assess others: A1 for a variety of method, A2 by observation only.

V Units are for those who are already qualified assessors and now wish to move on to assess the quality of assessments by others. Unit V1 is appropriate for you if your role involves:

    • evaluating the internal assessment process
    • monitoring and reviewing internal assessment audit systems
    • carrying out related internal verification or moderation activities.

BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS: The courses provide you with:

    • Recognition of your competency to assess others at work, against the industry's nationally agreed standards
    • A qualification which is yours and yours alone, which is recognised internationally
    • A qualification gained at your place of work - no requirement to attend a training establishment
    • A basis from which you can move on to further develop yourself

    BENEFITS TO EMPLOYERS: The courses:

    • Enable your organisation to achieve an ongoing, common platform of competency throughout the workforce through the application of NVQ programmes
    • Provide effective learning and assessment by using staff qualified in applying the work procedures of your organisation
    • Save costs by using in-house assessors and/or verifiers
    • Identify employees with ambition and development potential
    • Save time by being undertaken at the place of work
    • Achieve results with minimal disruption to work activities

    AIMS OF THE COURSES
These qualifications allow learners to prove their competence to assess or verify the assessment of the competence of fellow employees in applying their skills and operational procedures within their workplace.

    CONTENT OF THE COURSES
The awards are based on the agreed National Occupational Standards for Learning and Development (revised in 2002).

Unit A1 requires the participant to be able to demonstrate competence to assess candidates using a range of methods. The assessment methods include:

    • Observation
    • Questioning
    • Taking account of past experience and achievement
    • Setting tests
    • Setting projects and tasks
    • Arranging simulations
    • Assessing the candidate's report of work undertaken

The work is approached in 4 units which comprehensively cover the requirements to:

    • Develop plans for assessing competence with candidates
    • Judge evidence against criteria to make assessment decisions

Unit A2 requires the participant to be able to demonstrate competence to assess candidates solely by observation. This award has been developed by the Employment NTO. It replaces D32.

This unit covers assessing candidates by watching them in the workplace and assessing the areas of their knowledge that you cannot test by watching them work. Observation may take place in person or using appropriate technology such as a videotape. Evidence may also include examining work products.

    • assessing candidates' performance against the agreed standards
    • assessing candidates' knowledge against the agreed standards
    • making an assessment decision and giving feedback.

    V Units cover:

    • supporting assessors
    • monitoring the quality of assessors' performance
    • meeting external quality assurance requirements.
