Combined Working Practices NVQ - Levels 2 & 3

WHO ARE THEY FOR? These qualifications have been designed by industry and are suitable for any individual or organisation involved in manufacturing processes, particularly in sectors such as for Surface Coatings, Metals, Man-made Fibres and Paper and Board.

The qualifications are appropriate for any production operatives who wish to have their current skills assessed and recognised against accredited national standards and to raise their individual level of competence at work to meet those standards.

Level 2 participants may typically include workers who have a developed set of engineering skills and also, in addition to monitoring and controlling equipment, be able to exercise some judgement and decision making about the manufacturing process.

Level 3 participants will include those who have some degree of responsibility for the operational staff and/or the operational process.

AIMS OF THE COURSE
The course provides recognition of the individual's ability and achievement through the award of a nationally accredited and internationally recognised qualification and enables participants to raise their individual level of competence at work to meet those standards.

COURSE CONTENT: At both levels, participants are required to provide evidence of their work capabilities and underlying knowledge. This has to cover a range of mandatory and optional topics. The mandatory topics relate to basic operational activities which apply across all manufacturing operations, such as health and safety, achieving work objectives with others and handling problems.

The choice of options allows the qualification to be matched to the participant's specific job function and gives the context in which each item is to be assessed.

At Level 2, the course consists of four mandatory units and four additional topics to be chosen from two comprehensive groups of option, with either 2 or 3 to be selected from a group of 10 which cover general manufacturing operations. The remaining one or 2 additional topics are to be chosen from a group of 8 that relate to specific, more detailed production and support activities, such as analysing test results and making equipment adjustments.

At Level 3, the course requires five mandatory topics to be covered, plus four additional topics to be chosen from a total of 23 options. These are divided into groups of 3, 4, 7 and 8 topics, covering respectively general responsibilities, operational activities, testing and planning and managing operational staff. At least one topic is to be chosen from each of the latter three groups.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: There are no formal entry qualifications required. The course is ideally suited to both individuals and/or organisations wishing to up-date or multi-skill their workforce.

QUALIFICATION GAINED: PAAVQ-SET Combined Working Practices NVQ Level 2 or Level 3

COURSE ASSESSMENT: Competence is assessed against agreed National Standards, with evidence obtained from various sources within the workplace. It is essentially a work-based qualification.
