COURSE CONTENTS:
The courses comprise a series of topics, termed "Units" which address a broad variety of business and administration activities. For each qualification grade, the courses comprise mandatory Units that relate to broad work responsibilities plus a number of additional Units which are to be chosen from a comprehensive list of options. The topics covered range from handling mail and processing information, to developing procedures and facilitating decision-making. The number and choice of options to be taken is dependent on the grade of qualification being aimed for.
Each Unit has a learning value (Credits) on the QCF. The Credits for each successfully completed Unit count towards the achievement of the full qualifications, for which the minimum requirements are: Award - 9 Credits, Certificate - 21 Credits and Diploma - 37 Credits.
The Award requires two mandatory topics, with a combined value of 5 Credits, to be undertaken and at least two additional topics to be chosen from a list of 29 options, which cover a wide variety of essential office activities, including many IT applications. Two optional Units are at Level 1 and the others are at Level 2. (Exclusions apply between some specific Units.)
To achieve the full Award, at least one Level 2 optional Unit must be completed, together with others at either Level to achieve the required minimum total of 9 Credits.
The Certificate and Diploma require four mandatory topics, with a combined value of 9 Credits, to be undertaken. There are 13 optional Units available for the Certificate and Diploma grades at Level 1, 39 at Level 2 and 18 at Level 3 ( Exclusions also apply between some specific Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Units).
To achieve the Certificate, the required minimum target of 21 Credits for the full qualification must include at least 4 additional Credits achieved by completing optional Units at Levels 2 or 3. No more than 5 Credits can be gained from IT-related Units.
To achieve the required minimum total of 37 Credits for the full Diploma qualification at least 14 additional Credits must be achieved by completing optional Units at Levels 2 or 3 and no more than 11 Credits can be gained from IT-related Units.
