WHO IS IT FOR?
This qualification is designed for operational and support staff in all sectors of industry and commerce. It is ideal for those involved in improving business performance within any business activity, who wish to have their current skills assessed and recognised against accredited national standards and to raise their individual level of competence at work to meet those standards. Participants will have a developed set of engineering-based skills. In addition to monitoring and controlling equipment and quality, they will also exercise some judgement and decision-making about the use of business-improvement techniques.

AIMS OF THE COURSE:
This is a nationally accredited, practical qualification designed by industry to help improve business operations through continuous improvement programmes to reduce costs and increase productivity. The course is totally QCF compliant.
COURSE CONTENT
The course consists of five mandatory topics, termed “Units”, along with one further Unit to be selected from a range of 14 specific improvement techniques.
The mandatory Units cover the widely relevant topics of statutory regulations and organisational safety, effective team working, workplace organisation and continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen) and Visual Management Systems.
The optional Unit can be selected to match the business requirements of each Candidate’s place of employment. They range from systems analysis and problem solving to Six sigma, SPC, FMEA and Poka Yoke methods.
Participants are required to attend training workshops in order to gain the underpinning knowledge and for developing the projects and assignments.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry qualifications are required. The course is ideally suited to both individuals and/or companies. Participants can enrol on the present course up to January 2011.
ASSESSMENT: Participants are required to provide evidence of their work capabilities and underlying knowledge, with evidence obtained in the workplace from observation and witness testimony. Competence is assessed against agreed national standards.
It is essentially a work-based qualification. Credits are awarded for every individual Unit of the course which is successfully completed.
QUALIFICATION GAINED: City & Guilds Diploma in Business-Improvement Techniques: Process Improvement Level 2 (NVQ)
