    Process improvement pathway

    AIMS OF THE COURSE
    This qualification has been designed by industry. It is suitable for companies and individuals for improving business activity through continuous improvement programmes to reduce costs and increase productivity.

    Level 3 Candidates will have well developed engineering-based skills. In addition to monitoring and controlling equipment and quality, they will also exercise some judgement and decision-making about using business improvement techniques.

    COURSE CONTENT
    At Level 3, the Candidate must complete seven mandatory topics, termed “Units”, along with a further two optional Units from a choice of fourteen.

    MANDATORY UNITS:

    • Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
    • Contributing to effective team working
    • Leading effective teams
    • Applying workplace organisation (5Ss/5Cs)
    • Appling continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen)
    • Creating Visual Management Systems
    • Creating flexible production and manpower systems

    OPTIONAL UNITS:
    The 2 optional units to be covered will be selected to match the business requirements of the Candidates’ place of employment. They will be selected from:

    • Analysing and selecting parts for improvement
    • Carrying out lead time analysis
    • Carrying out Value Stream Mapping (VSM)
    • Applying Set-up Reduction Techniques (SMED)
    • Applying Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
    • Carrying out problem solving activities
    • Carrying out statistical process control procedures (SPC)
    • Applying Flow Process Analysis
    • Applying Policy Development (HOSHIN KANDRI)
    • Applying Value Management (Value Engineering & Value Analysis)
    • Carrying out Mistake/Error proofing (POKA YOKE)
    • Carrying out Potential Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Carrying out Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
    • Creating Standard Operating Procedures

    Candidates are required to attend training workshops in order to gain the underpinning knowledge and for developing the projects and assignments.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: No formal entry qualifications are required. The course is ideally suited to both individuals and/or companies wishing to reduce costs and increase productivity.

    QUALIFICATION GAINED: City & Guilds Business Improvement Techniques Level 3 NVQ.

    BOOKS OR MATERIALS All material will be provided for the course.
